urdue had just concluded its intrasquad scrimmage prior to its
August trip to Spain and Caleb Swanigan stood on the court at
Lafayette Jefferson High School afterward drenched in sweat, the
stuff dripping off the back of his head as if his hair was an overwhelmed
sponge.
Someone asked the Boilermaker sophomore and veteran of two overseas
tours with USA Basketball about the travel advice he might offer team-
mates.
"Make sure you pack enough underwear," Swanigan replied.
It was funny, atypically funny for a player who showed one side of himself
and one side only during an eventful freshman year.
It was not the funny side.
That Swanigan delivered the quip without so much as breaking that sto-
ic, brick-wall expression of his, though, epitomized the dichotomy that is
Caleb Swanigan at Purdue this season.
