VOLUME 27, ISSUE 2 61 a little more than others, but it doesn't mean you can't have a great season, that you can't recover from that. They're not the only players in the country. But it gets covered that way. (The media) has done too good of a job. But at the end of the day, some of our best players had no high-major offers." Purdue's gotten two commit- ments who did, though, and has a handful of other sought-after tar- gets on the line. And if Purdue doesn't fill its class early, it will recruit actively in the spring again, as it has often in re- cent years. "It's something different than it was five or six years ago because the spring is so different," Painter said. "There didn't used to be so many players left in the spring, but now people are waiting until the spring. Whether they're fifth-year guys, guys getting out of their let- ters, transfers or guys simply just waiting. "For us, I think it's important we keep continuing to evaluate and get the right guys. Even if you miss on a guy or two, just continue to make sure you get a good guy. We have very good chemistry on our team right now. I'm not going to go out and reach to take somebody if I ha- ven't evaluated them or don't un- derstand them. I not only want to get quality players, but also quali- ty people. That is something I feel very strongly about with everybody on our team." Here's a look at the players Pur- due has committed to this point. Matt Haarms: Purdue's never had a player like Haarms.
