STARRINKS.COM NOVEMBER.DECEMBER.2016 / 23 "We have a constant recruiting process," Hodgson said. "We have a referral program that we think is very helpful for us. We reward our current employees for bringing us good, new employees, so we try and incentivize our current employees to bring their family and friends and coworkers and get them on to our roster. It's a challenge for sure. To retain good people is a challenge." Seasonality At the end of the day, when the stands are empty and the sizeable crowds are well out the door, preparations for the next big event should already be in the works. Seasonality plays a role in arrangements, but starting work in the offseason— even six months ahead of time— could mean less scrambling in the future. "That's our planning and preparation," Hodgson said. "We use that time to recruit, and to train and to do all of those things so that when the busy times comes, we're ready to go. If you're not ready at the start of that busy season, you're not going to get caught up during the busy season." , The size of the crowd can affect ice temperatures. Plan ahead for adjustments.
