A&E DECEMBER 2016 • 9 Universal Laser Systems Granted Hybrid Technology Patent Scottsdale, Arizona-based laser engraving equipment manufacturer Uni- versal Laser Systems has been granted a patent for its MultiWave Hybrid technology. The MultiWave Hybrid technology com- bines beams from multiple lasers into a single, hybrid laser beam. Users can leverage this technology to combine a number of dif- ferent laser power levels and wavelengths. Additionally, users can dynamically and indi- vidually control the lasers. The company calls the technology an indispensable tool for manufacturing, materials science and product develop- ment. It offers enhanced laser material processing flexibility and adaptability and is ideal for many materials, such as plastic films, industrial films, engineering plastics, laminating adhesives, composite materials and others. GSG Raises $35,000 for Pancreatic Cancer Research GSG raises funds for pancreatic cancer research. The company generated dona- tions with a golf tournament on Oct. 21, known as the Hank Granberry Golf Classic tournament. The annual event honors H.L. "Hank" Granberry, father of GSG president Mark Granberry who passed away from pancreatic cancer at age 76. This year marks the 17th anniversary of the benefit. Held at the Stonebriar Fazio Resort in Frisco, Texas, this year's four-man scramble raised $35,000 in funds through a $200 entry fee for each player. More than 130 golfers participated. The funds benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Net- work (PanCAN) and University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center. To date, GSG has raised more than $300,000 with the yearly event.
