62 • A&E DECEMBER 2016 Feed My Starving Children "We started with Feed My Starving Children after a friend of our president, Chuck Dahlgren, recommended it as a way to give back and how good it felt to be a part of helping children. "At Feed My Starving Children, we separate our employees into groups of four to man a station. One employee holds a bag under a funnel; one employee puts rice into the bag; one employee puts freeze-dried vegetables and a combination of soy, vitamins and minerals into the bag; and the final employee seals the bag. Each bag contains six meals and costs less than $.25 to produce. We want to fill as many bags as possible, so we 'race' each other to see how many bags each team can fill. This year… we packed 138 boxes of food. That's a total of 29,808 meals, which feeds 82 children for an entire year." Blood Drives "We have been hosting a blood drive since 2007. The blood drive started as a result of Chuck's heart surgery. He needed blood at the time, and after he returned to work, he wanted to pay it forward." Adopt-a-Family "For the Adopt-A-Family, we adopt five families every Christmas. We receive background information on the family as well as the ages, genders, likes and dislikes of all of the children in the family. Our Memory Makers go out and buy gifts for these five families, ensuring they will have a great Christmas."
