Next Saturday, Dec. 3, the 10th annual Build a Mountain Food Drive will be in Westport and Elgin. Kudrinko's Country Market will be hosting the food drive on Saturday morning in Westport before the campaign moves to Gordanier's Freshmart in Elgin in the afternoon. On Dec. 10 the cam- paign moves to Portland at the LCBO and Royal Bank in the morning and to Mer- rickville in the afternoon. The campaign returns to North Leeds on Dec. 17 where it will be in Athens at the Freshmart from 9 a.m. until noon and in Delta from 1 to 4 p.m. The generosity of rural communities was evident in Westport and Rideau Lakes last year where Build a Mountain dona- tions included 2,775 lbs. of food and $9,322 for the Westport Food Bank, 945 lbs. and $7,626 for the Elgin Food Bank, 1,509 lbs. and $5,862 for the Portland Food Bank and 845 lbs. and $2,800 for the Delta Food Bank. Campaign totals fol- lowing week two of this year's campaign are 57,804 lbs. of food and $18,653 in cash donations from stops in Almonte, Carleton Place, Lanark and Perth. Westport in Bloom volunteers Barb Weir and Candy Stothart braved the cold on Tuesday to mount the group's Christmas swags on poles on Church Street, part of the group's many contributions to enhance the charm of the village. The event is part of the 22nd Annual Delta Coun- try Christmas; a seasonal celebration predating the Lower Beverley Lake Park's Celebrating the Season lights display. The pageant begins at 6:30 p.m., allowing time for the audience to enjoy a spaghetti supper at the United Church beginning at 4 p.m. The audience moves from The Baptist Church, to the United Church and then to the Old Stone Mill's Drive Shed. While in the village take advantage of the opportunity to visit the Old Stone Mill and the Old Town Hall. At Lower Beverley Lake Park over 80,000 lights as well as seasonal displays, light up the park each Saturday night until Dec. 17. Wagon rides are available from the fair- grounds. Suppers are available at the United Church. A walk through the park can be made from the boat launch. Adult admission is applicable for the event.
