Issue 41 / 2012 THE MONTH www.guestlist.net FASHION 27 7 ever with a pencil and paper! I could never draw a design before making it-it would look nothing like the end result im sure! What has been your biggest achievement to date? Biggest achievement so far would probably be hopping a mile on a space hopper for cancer research. But your probably talking fashion related haha so I would have to say the Highlight so far has to be see- ing my work being received with a standing ovation from over 200 people at the end of my first ever indepen dent fashion show. Hav- ing the realization that my business is thriving and I'm not just a nutter with a glue gun. And what's the most challenging thing about working in the fashion industry? I would say the fact that it is non- stop. Genuinely non-stop. There is no point in a day where i am not either working in my studio, sat at my computer doing balance sheets or meeting with clients. It is a very competitive industry as everyone knows. So there is no point that I can drop the ball for a second. I al- ways have to make sure I am push- ing Dumpster as far as it can go and pursuing every opportunity. Which is very tiring and allot of pressure to take on. But hey if you love it you love it right? Which places, art forms, ideas etc. inspire you and your work? Everything! I bet everyone says that, but really its true. Although Im not one to flick through fashion magazines and get hugely inspired or riddled with ideas. Its more like I go to the scrap yard and see an old engine and actual salivate when I see its only a tenner! I love the intri- cacy of engines and car mechanics. How the structure of the materials in their raw state can be so delicate and detailed just fascinates me and I really try and portray that amount of detail in my work. What would you say to yourself or do differently, if you could go back to 2007 when you launched Dumpster? Absolutely nothing. I stand by every decision I have made be it bad or good. Its all taken me to where I am now and I couldn't ask for anything more. (I sound like yoda right?)
