36 HIP HOP / RNB ALBUM'S OF THE www.guestlist.net MONTH Azealia Banks '1991' EP Issue 41 / 2012 GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS DANNY BROWN Since the foxy rappers '212' tune blew up late last year, this sexy lady has been a hot name on the lips of house and hip-hop fans alike. After leaving XL and coming to London to sign on the massive Universal Music owned Polydor, listeners have been eagerly awaiting her debut EP '1991' . The four track EP layers Azealia's eclectic sound over some too cool for school house beats. Her vocal styles range from bursting with attitude, sweet and sexy to downright dirty. The result is an EP that is destined for success within the commercial, dance and hip-hop scenes. The title track '1991' serves as an intro to the phenomenon that is Azealia Banks. The tune is bouncy yet mellow and is reminiscent of one of the most renowned female rappers, Missy Elliott. 'Liquorice' gives us a little bit of sweet and sour contrasting an almost cute chorus with playfully smutty verses. The EP is a testament to Azealia's love of house and with a mixtape due next July 4th and an album due later this year, is only a teasing taste of what's to come. Detroit produces yet another huge talent versaitility and various influences make this guy our one to watch. What is it about Detroit time and time again producing distinct talent? Must be something in the water. One of the latest to break out is Hip Hop artist Danny Brown. After signing to A-Trak's label Fool's Gold last summer, a label whose roster has always been choc full of huge talent, Danny Brown has been blowing up. With good reason considering what makes this artist unique, other than his strange dress sense and missing front teeth, is his ability as an COPYWRITE-GOD SAVE THE KING emcee to interchange styles. From song to song, he switches up his flow, showing massive versatility, incorporating influences from all branches of Hip Hop, creating his "melting pot" style. Expect to hear punch lines for days, oh and did we mention he's not shy about expressing his obsessions with weed and women. His latest video for single 'Grown Up' just dropped and if you haven't yet, grab his 'XXX' mix tape out now on Fool's Gold Records. TOUR SCHEDULE : BIGGA FISH CHAMPIONS This year is set to be one of their biggest tours to date, and it's taking place in six different cities all over the country. This all kicks off in New- castle and finishes in London town! Headlining the tour will be Chip and Lethal Bizzle, along with Lady Leshurr, Krept & Konan. These shows are set to be a sell out so make sure to get tickets before it's too late. 20th July Newcastle 21st July Manchester 22nd July Newport Ohio's Mike Myers rapper Copywrite has released his fourth studio album. Don't be fooled by the album title, it doesn't allude to his new-found Christian faith. In fact, the content of GSTK, excluding one or two tracks, is grittier than what you'd expect from a 2012 release. Raw, sometimes chorus free tracks, such as Year of The Gun and Starter Hats showcase his lyrical ability while songs like Crooked Cop- pers highlight Peter "Copywrite" Nelson's battle-rap acquired knack for punchlines and great delivery. Track number 3 is a massive co-sign by Hip-Hop connoisseur, DJ Sarah and battle-hardened Love. She points out the crazy UK/ US features such as Royce da 5'9/ Genesis Elijah(Brixton) and Crooked I/Iron Braydz(Harlesden). For his typical fanbase, this is probably the last full release we will have from Copywrite in which God-laden ref- erences won't be shoved down your throat. Consider it a bridge album. For fans of straight up, no frills, lyri- cism and good hip-hop, this is one of the most well-rounded EPs this year. God Save the King (Proper English Version) releases on Man Bites Dog Records 7th August 2012 23rd July Sheffield 24th July Birmingham 25th July London
