SUB FOCUS 44 DRUM N BASS / DUBSTEP www.guestlist.net I'm doing the residency at Amnesia in Ibiza. EMMA MAW | emma@guestlist.net So i'm here at Lovebox and i'm with the coolest man alive at the moment Sub Focus! So how you feeling about the set? Yeah really excited tonight its the second time that we're doing this new live show in london so were really hyped So you've never played Lovebox before have you? No i've never been asked so I was beginning to worry, and they asked me this year which was nice. How are you expecting the crowd to be today? Hopefully good although we're playing on an outdoor stage and its a bit cloudy right now... But fingers crossed for the sunshine! Yeah I think it will be good. Do you ever get nervous at all on stage? Erm not really before djing, but before these live shows there's so much technology involved that anything can go haywire but it all seems to be up to date! Do you have any kind of ritual you do to get yourself hyped on stage? No i'm quite boring like that i just remain in my dressing room and have a drink I don't have a shrine and pray! You've collaborated with amazing people like example, pendulum, have you got anything else coming up?? I have a couple of singles coming out this summer, i've started a track with Nero a little while ago, i've been working with Kele Okereke from Bloc Party and doing lots of collaborations and solo music for my next album. What festivals have you got coming up this summer as I hear that you are going to be hitting Ibiza? Yeah i'm doing the residency at Amnesia in Ibiza which is wicked, because i've been going out there for quite a long time for all different kinds of music and to get bass music on the island and happening on a big scale is really exciting. I am also doing a bunch of festivals Global Gathering, Creamfields, Bestival and a whole bunch of others! Are you looking forward to any in particular? Well i'm looking forward to each for different reasons, particularly the ones where i'm doing the live shows as that only premiered this year in Brixton. So I am looking forward to people seeing this. I was going to ask you do you ever get to party yourself other than making the parties for people? Yeah sometimes it is a funny thing because I have a lot of other friends who are DJs and you do actually stop going to nights out as a punter sometimes but I did go out Jubilee weekend with DJ EZ at Fabric and i'm enjoying a lot of UK garage music I think its coming back. So you would choose to go Fabric if you wanted to go anywhere in London? Yeah its a fun place. So people, artists and music evolves where do you think dubstep is going? Erm I think I see the whole scene as bass music and bass driven house its really hard to predict where it's going to go next because there's so many different off -shoots of it aswell, it's just impossible to predict thats the joy of it!
