TEAM VALVOLINE-CUMMINS MADE THEIR ROOKIE DEBUT AT THE 49TH SCORE BAJA 1000 T wo companies long associated with performance, took a leap of fate and combined their corporate efforts to compete at the 49th SCORE Baja 1000, campaigning one of two 1989 Dodge Rams in the SCORE Stock-Full class. While it wasn't a fairy tale ending for Team Valvoline-Cummins and the rookie drivers in their classic short-bed 1/2-ton truck, they did prove that their partnership in business was legendary --- win, lose or draw. "Our corporate cultures are well- aligned, and they have the same kind of commitment to excellence that we do," said Roger England, director for Materials Science & Technology at the Cummins Technical Center in Columbus, Indiana. The idea of building the trucks and entering them into a competition was to help celebrate Valvoline's 150th year anniversary. The concept was hatched at their headquarters in Kentucky where they would partner with the engine builder Cummins and build two race trucks.
