Exactly how that will all work out has yet to be fully formalized, but Klipsch has been impressed with the new athletic director's approach and vision. "Mike has shown the ability to con- nect not only with the people around town but also with the alumni," Klipsch said. "Based on the decisions he has made so far, he really has shown good judgment. "My perception is that this will be a more focused relationship between the Board and athletics than it has been in the past. That is no one's fault from the past, it is just a neces- sity of the times. We don't want the message to be that football is the only thing that matters. But competitive, if not winning, football is great for the student-athletes and for the fans. When the football program is down, it takes all the attention away from all that is good in all the other sports. "That is why the National Leader- ship Circle couldn't come at a more important time for Purdue. That is why we look for it to get bigger and better as people jump on board.
