GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 3 48 Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott are getting a lot of the headlines for Dallas' turn-around season, but a third rookie — former Boilermaker Anthony Brown — could be added to the mix, as well. The cor- nerback might have been the steal of the 2016 draft, con- sidering the impact he's made this season. Brown started six of the first 13 games, racking up 51 tackles and getting six pass break- u p s , plus pulling in his first career interception in Week 14. After that game, a loss to the New York Giants for only Dallas' second defeat in 13 contests, Dane Brugler, a senior anal- ysis for DraftScout, tweeted, "I think I say this every Sunday, but CB Anthony Brown was a ridiculous steal in the 6th round for the Cowboys." Hard to ar- gue. Brown has been a critical piece to the secondary in large part due to his versatility. He's played nickel and outside cornerback, started in five-DB packages and has filled in when veterans have been sidelined. Cliff Avril has been one of the best defenders in the NFL this season, totaling a career-high 11.5 sacks through only the first 14 games, ranking third overall and first among D-ends. That production is helping not only him and the Seahawks but Haitians, as well. In October, Avril pledged that for every sack he had this season, he would also build a house in Hai- ti. Since then, the nine-year NFL veteran has 9.5 sacks. Adding the two he had before the promise (and rounding up), he'll build at least a dozen homes. He was back in his parents' native country in April, flying there with his mom and former Seahawks' team- mate Marshawn Lynch. "It's always good to see people take pride in their country," Seahawks end Michael Bennett told the Seattle Times in early December, "and he's doing a good job of it." j Tampa Bay Buccaneers #64 OT Kevin Pamphile #96 DE Ryan Russell Oakland Raiders #82 TE Gabe Holmes Indianapolis Colts #37 CB Frankie Williams New Orleans Saints #9 QB Drew Brees Dallas Cowboys #30 CB Anthony Brown Carolina Panthers #99 DT Kawann Short Atlanta Falcons #37 S Ricardo Allen Seattle Seahawks #56 DE Cliff Avril #42 TE Brandon Cottom New England Patriots #50 DE Rob Ninkovich Washington Redskins #91 LB Ryan Kerrigan BOILERS The following is a look at former Boilermakers and their teams as of mid-December Houston Texans #33 RB Akeem Hunt Jacksonville Jaguars #29 CB Josh Johnson Tennessee Titans #71 G/T Dennis Kelly San Francisco 49ers #31 RB Raheem Mostert Avril Brown — By Kyle Charters Photos courtesy of Dallas Cowboys and Seattle Seahawks The
