GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 3 64 Season 35: 2001-02 Record: 11-4 Top Memory: Considering the Boilermakers suffered their worst season in four decades (a 13-18 record), Purdue was tough at home. An upset 84-75 win over No. 9 Illinois is the bright spot in Mackey. Season 36: 2002-03 Record: 14-1 Top Memory: The Boilermakers remain tough at home and have a bounce-back year with a 19-11 overall record and a trip to NCAA. A 22-point beatdown of Indiana, in which Kenneth Lowe and All-Big Ten guard Willie Deane are nearly unstoppable, warms up a cold January evening for the home fans. Season 37: 2003-04 Record: 9-5 Top Memory: Keady earns his 500th victory as coach with a nail-biting win over 53-51 win over No. 19 Wisconsin in early January, but possibly a 76-70 overtime win over Michigan State 11 days later is the best home game of the season. Season 38: 2004-05 Record: 6-9 Top Memory: The postgame farewell to Keady after yet another close loss to Minnesota is memorable, as a capac- ity crowd pays homage to the man who had roamed the sidelines for 25 years. The visual of thousands of "Thanks Coach" placards displayed by fans left a lasting impres- sion. Season 39: 2005-06 Record: 9-5 Top Memory: The cupboard is pretty bare for Matt Painter and Co., but the Boilermakers give great effort, especially at home, where all of their wins came that season. The top effort was a 14-point win over No. 22 Michigan in late February when freshman Marcus Green has a career game with 23 points, making just about everything he threw up. Season 40: 2006-07 Record: 16-1 Top Memory: David Teague was a fan favorite, and he saves one of his best games of his career with a 32-point, three-point barrage in a blowout win over Indiana, a game that had been postponed a day due to a 17-inch snowfall. He and Carl Landry help make Purdue basket- ball relevant again. Season 41: 2007-08 Record: 16-1 Top Memory: It would be hard to top Robbie Hummel's blocked shot in the game's closing seconds against No. 11 Wisconsin. It seals a late-January victory and ignites a celebration not seen on Keady Court in 16 years as the Paint Crew celebrates the win by rushing the court. Season 42: 2008-09 Record: 15-3 Top Memory: Prior to his ACL injuries, Hummel battled back injuries, missing games in the conference season. But when he is at or near 100-percent, Purdue is pretty good, as it was when it held No. 6 Michigan State without a basket for six minutes down the stretch en route to a 72-54 rout. Season 43: 2009-10 Record: 14-2 Top Memory: New Year's Day 2010 was a memorable one in Mackey as No. 4 Purdue dismantles No. 6 West Virgin- ia 77-62, giving it 13 straight wins to open the season. It looks as if 2010 might have a Final Four in it for Boiler- maker fans, until that fateful night in Minneapolis seven weeks later when Hummel tore his ACL. Season 44: 2010-11 Record: 16-0 Top Memory: With Hummel sidelined for the season, JaJuan Johnson and E'Twaun Moore still manage to go through the home schedule unscathed for just the sec- ond time in history. Moore's dazzling 38-point effort in a 13-point win over No. 2 Ohio State in late February showcases shooting from the guard position not seen since Mount. Season 45: 2011-12 Record: 11-2 Top Memory: The fact that Hummel was able to play after two knee injuries was remarkable, as was the rededi- cation of Mackey Arena following the extensive renovation. A 96-34 win on The Triple XXX Family Restaurants and Route 66 Diner Salute Purdue's Great Icons, like Duane Purvis Indiana's Oldest Drive-In On the Hill, But on the Level Since 1929 Triplexxxfamilyrestaurant.com
