GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 3 65 opening night against Northern Illinois is nearly as impres- sive as the shined-up digs. Season 46: 2012-13 Record: 12-7 Top Memory: A disappointing conference season didn't start out that way, as Purdue passes No. 11 Illinois to open league play on Jan. 2. A 13-point victory looked to be a good sign for a young, but talented Purdue team, but it wasn't sustained. Season 47: 2013-14 Record: 12-5 Top Memory: The season looked salvageable in mid-Feb- ruary when the Boilermakers' blow out Indiana 82-64 thanks, in part, to some hot shooting by one-year player Sterling Carter. Unfortunately, it was the Boilermakers' last win of the season as they slid into last place in the Big Ten with seven straight losses. Season 48: 2014-15 Record: 14-3 Top Memory: Purdue had played well down the stretch but is still in need of a solid win to ensure its first trip to the NCAA Tournament in three years. It got it on senior day with a tense 63-58 win over Illinois making for a stress-free Selection Sunday a couple weeks later. Season 49: 2015-16 Record: 17-1 Top Memory: After building an 18-point lead early in the second half, the Boilermakers look dead in the water in the closing minutes against No. 8 Michigan State, trailing by four late in regulation. The sight of A.J. Hammons grabbing the rebound of a missed free throw in the closing seconds to secure the win is memorable. Hammons didn't travel, did he? Season 50: 2016-17 Record: 6-1 (through Dec. 20) Top Memory: More are to be made for sure, but the Villa- nova game is easily labeled the most fun Purdue fans have had in a home loss in a long time. Purdue battles the de- fending national champs to the wire, but with Wisconsin, Michigan State and Indiana coming to Mackey later, more memories are possible, if not probable. j HOOPS SEASON IS HERE!
