GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 3 74 BY KYLE CHARTERS KCharters@GoldandBlack.com O n Dec. 13, Sharon Versyp sat in the front row at Center Grove's gym. She watched her two 2018 commitments, Center Grove's Cassidy Hardin and Martinsville's Kayana Traylor, arguably the two best guard in their class in the state, and a pair who could form Purdue's backcourt — and carry the Boilermakers — for years to come. It's an intriguing combination, with Traylor being a dy- namic, aggressive point guard and Hardin an outstand- ing shooter. "They'll complement each other perfectly," said Cen- ter Grove coach Shawn Sanders, whose team squeaked out a 56-55 win over Martinsville. "You won't be able to suck into the paint as a defense to try to stop Traylor, be- cause that's what you would try to do, because Cass will stand out there and shoot. So Cass stretches the defense, which will help Traylor, and Traylor is going to drive and kick to Cass. Yeah, they will complement each other ex- tremely well." The '18 class — Versyp still has one scholarship avail- able — picked up its second piece on Thanksgiving, when Hardin committed to the Boilermakers. Traylor, a 5-foot-9 point, had been verbally committed to Purdue since September 2015. Hardin had been planning a November commitment, deciding between a list of finalists that included Purdue, Vanderbilt and Michigan State. And, she figured, Thanks- giving would be as good a time as any to make an an- nouncement, although telling Versyp became a bit of a challenge on the holiday, considering Purdue was out of the country playing in the Cancun Challenge.
