GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 3 80
the LPGA card?
Brouse thinks she might have — the pull is great,
considering the difficulty in earning an opportunity on
the top tour — but Kim says no.
"I was pretty much set on finishing school," she
said. "To be this close and to quit on something, it's
not like winning the card means that all my dreams
are accomplished. It'd be opening another challenge.
It's not always something that comes easy with young
age, getting into the tour is one thing, but succeeding
on the tour is another. I'm positive that I would have
finished school. I wouldn't have left my team and my
coaches after all we've done and all they've done for
me."
Sounds good. Now, Kim can help lead the Boiler-
makers, ranked 12th at GolfStat.com and 15th in Golf-
Week, into the spring, when they'll hope for a Big Ten
team title and deep NCAA Tournament run.
It's what Brouse had hoped years ago when he start-
ed recruiting Kim.
"You see a lot of good players out there, good scor-
ers, but trying to gauge the intangibles (is hard)," he
said. "And the main intangible is 'What's their ambi-
tion like? What is their determination to fight through
after the setbacks and defeats?' And she had definitely
had her share of them in a two-year period, so good
for her for coming out the other side stronger and con-
tinuing to go forward.
"Two years of commitment and fighting through the
competition has made her stronger and I know she's
fundamentally better. And I don't think she's seen her
best golf yet. She needs to keep going."
