GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 3 87 round games, only to be sent home in the following game. In Shondell's 14 years at Purdue, the Boilermakers have made seven Sweet 16 and two Elite Eights, with each senior class having at least one trip into the Tourna- ment's second weekend. This group hasn't, and has only one year remaining. "When you look back at their body of work thus far, it doesn't compare to most seniors who previously came out of this program," Shondell said. "They didn't make the tournament their freshmen year, then they went to the first round and got beat by good teams on opposing floors in Years 2 and 3, but that's not what most of the seniors in the last decade here have done. So, I think there will be great motivation for those guys to lead. "… And you finished 10th, right around where people thought you would finish, I guess (experts) were smarter than we thought, but we got in the NCAA Tournament and pro- gressed forward. Every year is dif- ferent, though; you don't know what the motivation level is going to be for these girls next year, so we'll see. But I think that this team can be as good as any we have ever put on the floor, but a lot of things have to work right for that to happen." Talk started right after the tourney loss at Missouri. Then, rather than graduations and transfers, topics that dominated the last offseason, Purdue was starting to look ahead. "I remember when we were at Miz- zou, meeting in the locker room, we started thinking, 'We have to start thinking about this Tournament now, because this is exactly when it starts,' " Stahl said. "We just have to do things that we weren't doing the year before. We have to get in the gym more this offseason and just come together as a team more and just do more things that we weren't doing because I think that every single opportunity that we can take to get in the gym will help us. "Working harder in every workout session that we have is just going to take effect later on in the season. I think that's when those things show up, in the postseason and the NCAAs. What did we do when last season was over? What did we do in the spring and summer? How hard did we work? Did we put in the extra time? I think that is go- ing to be key into us making a deeper run." j CERAMIC • ENGINEERED HARDWOOD LAMINATES • MARBLE CARPETING Specializing in • Homes • Businesses • Churches • Schools Where Contractors Buy Their Flooring Builders!
