54 / NOVEMBER.DECEMBER.2013 RINKMAGAZINE.COM by JOHN MONTELEONE, CIRM I t started in Cape Cod, Mass., in April, and rapidly progressed to include places across the states like the Wisconsin Dells and Dearborn, Mich., to Jay, Vt., and Geneva, N.Y. A whirlwind tour of airports and rinks, small towns and big cities, the STAR staff had a great time on the road this spring and summer, seeing old friends and mak- ing new ones while conducting 19 courses between Cory Portner, Don Moffatt and myself. One common thread between all of the locations we visited was the quality of the facilities we utilized for classes. Across the board, the host facilities and their staff were top-notch. Each location was clearly com- mitted and dedicated to helping us put on a great training experience for attendees. And for that, STAR is indebted to you. Our sincere appreciation for your efforts! RINK Magazine has featured plenty of articles on the importance of training staff, and while the temptation is there, I'll forgo that topic to focus more on what's ahead for industry training in the coming months. We've already been taking calls and emails on NARCE course offerings, as well as locations and classes being offered for the 2014 Regional Training Programs (RTPs) season. It's encouraging to see so many managers and owners seeking out training opportunities for their staff.
