I n 10 years, RINK Magazine has earned its reputation as "the insider's publication" on the rink and arena industry. By soliciting feedback from those of you in our rinks everyday, we work hard to put together a magazine that is useful and relevant for what you do. As you can imagine, with all the changes that happen in our facilities, it's a constant, and enjoyable, battle to keep up and provide all of our readers with "news you can use." With that in mind, we are always looking for new ideas and new features to share in RINK and with the industry. With this issue, we have decided to provide a more in-depth analysis of a specific subject that many of you deal with — dehumidification. Several of the leading dehumidification system manufacturers have contributed articles on the topic, which begins on page 18, and we hope you find it to be valuable. Dehumidification is timely, as (fortunately) spring and summer are right around the corner. While we know that spring is not necessarily the best time of year in the rink business, it is the time of year when you can look back on the past season and start planning for next year. In the spring of 2006, we were hopefully gaining some momentum after the Olympics. Historically, the Olympic year has been a boost to the rink business, but the year after has been a disappointment. How did you do this year compared to last year? Were you able to build off of the Olympic spike? Or were the Olympics even a factor for your business? In any case, the spring also provides the opportunity for rink owners, operators and managers to gather at NARCE. Approaching our fifth NARCE, it has become what we envisioned — an education experience that allows our industry to come together, share ideas and best practices, and focus on all the good things that happen in our rinks. We recognize the challenges in our business, but it makes sense to focus on the good and spend time figuring out how to replicate those successes throughout the industry. So, if you haven't yet done so, please visit NARCE.com, register and join the rest of your peers in Chicago. We look forward to hearing the great ideas that you have to help our industry succeed. —Pat Kelleher, Chief Operating Officer, STAR Pat Kelleher Dave Wescott Don Moffatt 719-538-1149 719-538-1160 info@rinkmagazine.com Chief Operating Officer: Director, Facility Programs: Assistant Director, Facility Programs: phone: fax: email: STAR is a program of USA Hockey and US Figure Skating Opening address Exciting Times Ahead For Rink and NARCE Volume 10 Number 2 6 R INK MAGAZ INE M a r c h / a p r i l 2 0 0 7 We have decided to provide a more in-depth analysis of one specific subject that many of you deal with — dehumidification.
