54 / JANUARY.FEBRUARY.2017 USICERINKS.COM NGB News USA Hockey & U.S. Figure Skating across the country will open their doors and welcome more than 12,000 families to their first hockey experience as part of Try Hockey For Free Day during Hockey Week Across America. Participating rinks see roughly 37 new 4- to 9-year-old participants. With the February timing, this event provides rinks a prime opportunity to acquire new customers and transition them into their spring Learn to Skate and Learn to Play programming. To celebrate the 10th anniversary of Hockey Weekend Across America, USA Hockey announced that it would extend the event for an entire week (February 19-26, 2017) to showcase the sport and engage the , All-event tickets for 2017 Skate America are on sale now. The 2017 Skate America will be held Nov. 24-25, 2017, at the 1980 Herb Brooks Arena. All-event tickets, starting at $125, will be available at 2017skateamerica.com or by calling 518-523-3330. Skate America will be the sixth and final competition of the 2017 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Series. Other stops on the Grand Prix Series include: Skate Canada International, Rostelecom Cup, Trophée de France, Cup of China and NHK Trophy. Skaters earn points throughout the Grand Prix Series to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final each December. The event will feature three days of competition in ladies, men's, pairs and ice dance. The field of competitors will include 60 world-class athletes, including Olympic and World competitors and hopefuls and national champions. Past Skate America titlists include five-time World champion and two-time Olympic medalist Michelle Kwan and Olympic champions Kristi Yamaguchi, Scott Hamilton, Evan Lysacek and Meryl Davis and Charlie White. The field of American and international competitors for 2017 Skate America will be announced next summer.
