20 THE WOLVERINE FEBRUARY 2017 Speight threw for 2,538 yards and 18 touchdowns, completing 61.6 percent of his passes, with seven interceptions. A shoulder in- jury at Iowa hurt both him and the Wolverines down the stretch, but the rookie starter delivered plenty, enough to put himself into a strong position to lead the way in 2017. 6. JAKE BUTT Senior, TE The saddest aspect of Michigan's struggle to 2016's finish line had to be Butt, his anterior cruciate liga- ment torn, lying on the turf at the Orange Bowl. Butt returned for his senior season to win a champion- ship, and fate proved cruel to him on a number of fronts. The captain will ultimately be remembered more as the most productive tight end in the his- tory of Michigan football, setting career marks for receptions (138) and yards (1,646) at that spot. He caught 46 passes for 546 yards this season, earning the John Mackey Award as the nation's top tight end, as well as securing consensus All- America status. 7. RYAN GLASGOW Fifth-Year Senior, DT Glasgow finished his career as the Richard Katcher Award winner, annu- ally given to Michigan's top defensive lineman, and a second-team All-Big Ten performer. He finished seventh on the team with 42 tackles, including 9.5 for loss and four sacks. From walk-on to stalwart stopper, Glasgow became a defensive line fixture. 8. AMARA DARBOH Fifth-Year Senior, WR Darboh paced Michigan's receiving corps with 57 catches for 862 yards and seven touchdowns, becoming a second-team All-Big Ten performer. Eight of his catches and 68 yards oc- curred in Columbus, Darboh making a clutch fourth-down grab to send the game to a second overtime. 9. CHANNING STRIBLING Senior, CB Stribling rose up to become a sec- ond-team All-Big Ten performer as a senior, leading the Wolverines with 13 passes broken up and four intercep- tions on the year. Two of his intercep- tions came against Wisconsin, an early showdown in which he earned the team's Defensive Player of the Game. 10. MAURICE HURST JR. Redshirt Junior, DT Hurst represents one of just two re- turners among the top 10, making him a key performer for 2017. He already played an integral role this season, securing 11.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks among his 34 stops. He added seven quarterback hurries and a forced fumble, and should be a force for the next U-M D-line. 11. ERIK MAGNUSON Fifth-Year Senior, OT Magnuson earned first-team All- Big Ten honors in his final year as a Wolverine, capturing the Hugh R. Rader Memorial Award as Michi- gan's best offensive lineman. He represented a crew that endured huge struggles early, but grew up into a unit that helped put 20 wins on the board his final two seasons. 12. MASON COLE Junior, C Cole's bowl practice proclama- tion that he's returning for his se- nior season arrived as a welcome confirmation after he secured the center spot this season. He per- formed well in all 13 Michigan games this year, earning second- team All-Big Ten honors in his third season as a starter. 13. DE'VEON SMITH Senior, RB Smith proved Michigan's best all- around back for the second straight season, leading the Wolverines with 181 carries for 846 yards (4.7 average) and 10 touchdowns. Michigan's best pass protector among the backs, Smith earned honorable mention All-Big Ten and garnered Big Ten Co-Offensive Player of the Week honors with 153 yards against Indiana on Senior Day. 14. MIKE MCCRAY Redshirt Junior, LB McCray stepped into a supposed "weak spot" for the Wolverines and delivered strength. The honorable mention All-Big Ten performer fin- ished second on the team with 76 tackles, including 12.5 for loss and 4.5 sacks. He broke up seven passes and picked off two, returning one for a touchdown in the Orange Bowl to spark a Michigan rally. 15. DELANO HILL Senior, S The second-team All-Big Ten per- former (coaches) finished fifth on the squad with 52 tackles and second with three interceptions. He notched 4.5 Redshirt junior linebacker Mike McCray did not even make our preseason top-25 list, but he was sure not to be overlooked after post- ing 76 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, seven passes broken up, two interceptions and a forced fumble.
