4 THE WOLVERINE FEBRUARY 2017 THE FUTURE IS BRIGHT Dear The Wolverine: I am sure that all Michigan fans are bitterly disappointed with how the season ended and the team failing to win the Big Ten title or make the playoff. I honestly feel that they are the second-best team in the nation, behind only Alabama. There is no question that was a hor- rible job done by officials in Colum- bus, but even with several terrible calls Michigan would have won the game safely in regulation had it not made so many mistakes. Michigan failed to put the game away when it had the chance. Despite the loss in Columbus, Michigan still would have been in the Big Ten title game and likely the playoff had it gotten one first down to salt away the Iowa game. As heartbreakingly close to a dream season as Michigan was is re- ally amazing. I will put a positive spin on this! Michigan is 20-6 in two years under Jim Harbaugh and staff, with three of the losses coming on the last play of the game. All this with only one real recruiting class for this staff! They did inherit some good talent, but this squad was thin or average February 2017 • Vol. 28, No. 7 ISSN 1048-9940 Editor John Borton The Wolverine.com Editor Chris Balas Football Recruiting Writer Brandon Brown Contributing Writers Austin Fox Orion Sang Managing Editor Ryan Tice Contributing Editor Steve Downey Editorial Intern Leland Mitchinson Layout And Design Jeanette Blankenship Chris Miller Contributing Photographers Lon Horwedel Per Kjeldsen Cover Photo Per Kjeldsen Publisher Stu Coman Business Manager Linda Autry Circulation Manager Gail Evans Marketing/Merchandise Manager Beverly Taylor Director Of Advertising Michelle Delee-Hamilton Customer Service Lauren Saunders The Wolverine is published monthly.
