52 THE WOLVERINE FEBRUARY 2017   FOOTBALL RECRUITING Quarterback Dylan McCaffrey, 6-4, 185, Highlands Ranch, Colo. (Valor Christian) As the No. 7 pro-style quarterback and No. 131 overall player in the country, he is the face of the class and perhaps the future of Michigan football at the QB position. Running Back O'Maury Samuels, 5-10, 190, Los Lunas, N.M. (Los Lunas) The four-star, who is listed as the No. 21 running back nation- ally, is firmly committed to Michigan but did check out Arizona to ensure that U-M is the best spot for him. Kurt Taylor, 5-9, 201, Covington, Ga. (Newton) Taylor has been a solid ambassador for the Michigan program since committing back in October 2015, but his talent level may not be where it needs to be for a place like U-M. As of Jan. 15, Michigan didn't have any other running back options, although that could change as National Signing Day approaches. Fullback Tory Carter, 6-2, 255, Leesburg, Ga. (Lee County) The nation's top fullback is committed to LSU and said his pledge would be solidified if Ed Oregeron was named the per- manent head man. Oregeron got the job but may move toward a spread system, which would cause Carter to look closer at Michigan. His Jan. 13 official visit to LSU is expected to play a huge role in his final decision. Wide Receiver Tarik Black, 6-3, 201, Cheshire, Conn. (Cheshire Academy) The No. 11 wide receiver and No. 76 overall player in the country committed to Michigan in mid-December and is now on cam- pus at U-M as an early enrollee. Nico Collins, 6-5, 193, Pinson, Ala. (Clay) Long thought to be a Michigan lean, the four-star is also being recruited by Georgia and Alabama. The No. 17 wide receiver and No. 120 overall player in the nation has been to Michigan five times, including once for an official. Brad Hawkins, 6-2, 195, Suffield, Conn. (Suffield Academy) Was originally part of the 2016 class, but will now join U-M's program this summer as a member of the 2017 class after a year of prep school in Connecticut. Donovan Peoples-Jones, 6-1, 188, Detroit (Cass Tech) The five-star prospect was Michigan's top in-state target and perhaps its top offensive or even overall target on the board, which made his commitment a huge win on the recruiting trail. The No. 1 wide receiver and No. 12 overall player nationally is already on campus. Offensive Line Mekhi Becton, 6-7, 300, Highland Springs, Va. (Highland Springs) Rivals.com's No. 20 offensive tackle and No. 195 overall recruit of- ficially visited Michigan for the Maryland game and thoroughly enjoyed himself. He plans to commit to Georgia, Michigan, Michi- gan State, Virginia or Virginia Tech on National Signing Day. Chuck Filiaga, 6-6, 335, Aledo, Texas (Aledo) The No. 16 offensive tackle and No. 175 overall prospect nation- ally got down to a top three of Michigan, Nebraska and Okla- homa, and pledged to the Wolverines on live television during the second quarter of the Army All-America Bowl Jan. 7. Ja'Raymond Hall, 6-5, 255, Oak Park, Mich. (Oak Park) Hall has been committed since last December and is enrolled at Michigan. Kai-Leon Herbert, 6-4, 279, Plantation, Fla. (American Heri- tage) Surprised everybody when he decided to leave the Sunshine State and chose the Wolverines over Florida. Now, the No. 250 overall prospect in the country is scheduled to take official visits to both Miami and Florida, and looks like a prime flip candidate for the Gators. Joel Honigford, 6-6, 263, Sugarcreek, Ohio (Garaway Local School) The three-star tackle is an Ohio kid that isn't interested in an Ohio State offer, even if it were to come. He was at the BBQ at The Big House in August and returned for most of Michigan's home games this season. He's solid and won't be heading anywhere but Ann Arbor. Cesar Ruiz, 6-3, 313, Bradenton, Fla. (IMG Academy) The nation's top center committed to Michigan Dec. 18 and is already on campus as an early enrollee. He's one of the highest- rated centers in the Rivals.com era as the No. 41 overall prospect in the country. Andrew Stueber, 6-6, 305, Darien, Conn. (Darien) Rolled into Ann Arbor for the Big Man camp in June and landed an offer from the staff. He headed back home to Connecticut, and it didn't take long for him to choose the Wolverines. He's as solid as can be to Michigan and won't take any other visits. Defensive End James Hudson, 6-5, 271, Toledo, Ohio (Central Catholic) Pledged to the Wolverines over Michigan State just before the season got underway. He also held offers from many other top programs in the country, including Alabama. The No. 240 overall prospect in the country is locked into Michigan. Deron Irving-Bey, 6-5, 245, Flint, Mich. (Southwestern Academy) Michigan got more involved as his recruitment progressed, and that culminated in a Dec. 9-11 official visit to Ann Arbor, followed by a commitment just a week later. Corey Malone-Hatcher, 6-3, 246, St. Joseph, Mich. (St. Joseph) The early enrollee is already on campus at U-M.
