The owner of Elgin Pharmacy is facing several charges of misconduct after an investigation by the Ontario College of Pharmacists. The allegations were made in the wake of an investigation last spring after a complaint of pro- fessional misconduct against Akop Shaboian. A hearing date hasn't been set. The college's website lists a series of allegations relating to prescribing and record keeping between 2014 and 2016. The investigation came about from a complaint by a patient to the College. Alleged misconduct included dispensing prod- ucts in a different quantity than indicated on pharma- cy records, over charging for dispensing fees, dis- pensing pharmaceuticals without a prescription, and falsifying records. The college stated that Shaboian, during the investigation attempted to contact the complainant and attended unannounced at her office with flowers in an effort to discuss the matter. During the investiga- tion he also on several occasions attended her res- idence in order to try to retrieve bottles of pre- scription medication, knowing that those bottles were relevant to the Col- lege's investigation. Campground owners and campground users should brace themselves for administering and col- lecting payments for a new trailer licensing fee for units in Rideau Lakes Township in 2018. At a budget meeting last Thursday council directed staff to explore the concept in preparation for the implementation of a licensing system next year. The idea was one of 22 suggestions for revenue or changes in service levels which were identified and considered for implemen- tation last Thursday. "There is a dispropor- tionate demand for local services given the high occupancy rate. You see hotel taxes in the city. It's the same kind of thing," said Rideau Lakes CAO Mike Dwyer who identi- fied as many as 1200 units in the township, based on local campground capaci- ty. The revenue could be even more if 450 trailers which are deemed assess- able by MPAC would be charged at a higher rate. The trailers status changes with the addition of struc- tures around it and the removal of wheels. Rideau Centennial is among a group of 16 Upper Canada District School Board schools that may be closed after this school year. A report to the Upper Canada District School Board trustees last fall also recommended anoth- er 13 schools, including Sweet's Corners, close in phase II if the Board can get funding to make room at neighbouring schools. Among the dozens of options outlined in the report, increasing the use of South Crosby Public School with the addition of Rideau Centennial stu- dents next September, was the only one involving Leeds County schools this year. Sweet's Corners stu- dents would also move to South Crosby in the future if the province funds an expansion or new school in Elgin.
