SCORE SAN FELIPE 250 Billy Wilson Shows He’s A Contender The first race of the 2016 season began with the 30th Anniversary of the San Felipe 250 in late February. The top contender to win the overall race was Tavo Vildosola, who had already won the race three times in a row (2013, 2014, and 2015). The challenging 249.5-mile single loop course, however, had SCORE’s top Trophy Truck competitors such as Vildosola and BJ Baldwin break down, leaving Billy Wilson out of Corpus Christi, Texas, in a perfect position to win the overall SCORE San Felipe and take the first win of the season in the SCORE Trophy Truck division. The 30th SCORE San Felipe 250, also showcased the skills of motorcycle and quad racers who would demonstrate some extreme racing abilities during the 2016 points championship season. In the Pro Moto Unlimited division, Colton Udall teamed up with Mark Samuels in San Felipe and took an early lead to win the race. Little did everyone know that this team would repeat victories all season long. Javier Robles Jr., who teamed up with co-riders Josh Row, and Jose Meza Veles on their Honda TRX450R began the season’s first race with confidence and demonstrating what the Pro Quad division would have to deal with in the next three races of the season. In what would be a dominant force in Pro Moto Limited and Pro Moto 50 classes, Mark Winkelman, and teammate Jim O’Neal teamed up with other riders to enter both classes in San Felipe. The team came up the win in Pro Moto 50 and a second place finish in Pro Moto Limited. Tony Gera, once again made it back onto the podium with a win in San Felipe in the Ironman division but would face tough competition from rider Michael Skurkis in this race and others this season. In the four-wheel classes, the father and son team of Paul and Chad Broughton moved up from a 2015 championship season in Class 3000 and entered the Trophy Truck Spec division to win the class in San Felipe. Likewise, Aaron and Alan Ampudia earned their first victory in Class 8, which would start a string of wins during the SCORE 2016 season. The UTV field was light in San Felipe, but Marc Burnett in the Pro UTV FI class was determined to make this his year. He ended up with a much-needed victory here, allowing him to gain momentum heading into the SCORE Baja 500. In the Pro UTV NA class, it was the team of David Nance, Kent Pfieffer, and Zach Goemer who managed to win in their Polaris RZRXP1000.SJ
