SCORE CELEBRATES 2016 SEASON. PUBLISHER'S NOTE The 2016 SCORE World Desert Championship season is now in the record books and was celebrated in a big way this past weekend at the 2016 SCORE World Desert Championship Awards Ceremony. See inside this issue’s coverage with a bonus video teaser included showcasing the sold-out house of racing legends, current season champions, their team members and families and other racing industry dignitaries, that came together to recognize this year’s hard fought championships. The 2016 season was record breaking in many way with so many landmark goals attained. Let’s review how the annual Top 10 list items stacked up: #10 SCORE App – Introduced to deliver all SCORE race, marketing and media assets to SCORE International global fan base. #9 SCORE Journal – Continued growth setting the mark for the off-road motorsports segment’s #1 content delivery outlet for SCORE updates, team profiles, product review and introduction and Safety education. #8 Spanish Version of SCORE Journal introduced to address the requests from the very important SCORE core market that host our great race series. #7 SEMA SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifier – Big growth event that has expanded to include the Trophy Truck Spec class to support this competitive class and to enhance the SCORE Baja 1000 Qualifying experience. #6 Live Feed introduction with highly produced multi-camera and location programs now available for on-site and on-line viewing. #5 D2G filming the entire 2016 season for big 2017 release #4 Rosarito Beach SCORE Desert Challenge – Move to a race venue on Pacific Ocean proved to be a great move enabling the race to run a 35 degree cooler temperature than the previous race venue running at that time of year! #3 BF Goodrich celebrates 40 years partnership with SCORE International! #2 Class 10 and overall points champion, Rafael Navarro IV, also bringing back the buggy class to this #1 position! #1 Increased Safety measures with additional Helicopter, Stella Tracking systems and rule changes that insure greater safety for SCORE participants and spectators! All these items are the building blocks for the historic SCORE Baja 1000 50th Anniversary season we are now beginning! Finally, and sadly, the off-road industry and motorsports community have all experienced a great loss with the passing of Casey Folks. Casey was a friend of all and mine for many decades. My first experience with Casey was during “our” early years when I was a rookie staffer with Cycle News and later Dirt Rider Magazines. I will miss him dearly. As Casey often would say to me, I now want to reciprocate, Casey, You Are A Good Man! Jim
