Those are the first words on so many emails we receive in our office. It's usually a quick note from a member of the industry passing on a link to a story or a video clip. It's this sort of communication among colleagues that we think is vital to our future. For too long, we haven't shared enough information in this industry. Instead of passing on ideas, we have kept our success a secret and complained about our problems. But now, with a simple email, we can send around the best ideas and stories that our industry has to offer. And why not? We know that a healthy INDUSTRY is what we all want. If we can pick up a trick or a tip from a peer or, better yet, if we can offer up a trick or a tip, then we are working together to improve our industry. Which brings me to NARCE (how's that for a smooth transition?). If you haven't been to NARCE before, start making plans to join us in Chicago in May. If you've been to NARCE, we look forward to seeing you there again. Why, you ask, should we be at NARCE? Well, the quick answer is that is the largest gathering of the industry. The longer answer is that people come to NARCE to make their business better, which in turn makes our industry better. The networking and sharing of ideas is unmatched, and this theme carries through every aspect of the event. Everyone, and that includes our instructors, is there to learn. And if you need more information on NARCE? Well, just shoot me an email (patk@starrinks.com) and I'll pass along some quotes from previous NARCE attendees. And I only ask that you forward that email around to a bunch of your colleagues. —Pat Kelleher, Chief Operating Officer, STAR STAR is a program of USA Hockey and US Figure Skating Opening address NARCE and The Beauty of Networking Volume 11 Number 1 6 R INK MAGAZ INE January/February 2008 "Y Pat Kelleher Dave Wescott Don Moffatt Cory Portner 719-538-1149 719-538-1160 info@starrinks.com Chief Operating Officer: Director, Facility Programs: Director, Facility Programs: Manager, Facility Programs: phone: fax: email: RINK Magazine is the definitive business publication for professionals in the ice rink industry, and is the leading source for information on facility management, operations, and construction.
