With more than 185,000 members nationwide, it is evident that figure skating's popularity is continuing to grow. In January, during the 2008 U.S. Figure Skating Championships in Saint Paul, Minn., spectators were treated to amazing competition, drama and artistry. Our partnership with NBC has allowed for unprecedented coverage of our sport. For the first time ever, fans were able to view live or same-day coverage of competition in ladies,' men's, pairs and ice dancing during the event broadcast. This speaks volumes about the dedication of both NBC and U.S. Figure Skating to ensure that the fans and the athletes alike are provided with the maximum amount of coverage available. U.S. Figure Skating continues to support STAR in their efforts to expand the number of facilities and participants in the Basic Skills programs. In addition, U.S. Figure Skating relies on our partnership with the owners and operators of rinks across the nation to provide top-of-the-line training facilities for everyone from Basic Skills participants to future Olympians. By working together, we can achieve our common goal of promoting skating as an activity to be enjoyed for a lifetime. As we move forward toward the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver, we continue our commitment to make figure skating a sport to be appreciated by all. —David C.
