Break Out Of The Ice Age With A Multi-Use Leisure Ice Skating Facility Bonestroo, a full-service engineering and planning firm based in St. Paul, Minn., recently worked with the City of Elkhart, Indiana to plan, design and construct the first-of-its-kind U.S. outdoor refrigerated skate path in Elkhart, Indiana—a unique solution for weather-dependent venues impacted by climate change. Following the lead of the family aquatic park, Jim Maland, principal, wanted to design an outdoor destination that offered something for everyone and got park patrons back in touch with nature. The skate path weaves through trees, fire pits and a picnic area and convenes at a traditional oval rink. The skating oval is surrounded by a village of three functional support buildings for the facility. In the summer months, the path transforms into an inviting host for annual art shows and fairs. An adjacent splash pad serves to amuse children and provide welcome relief from warm summer days. Bonestroo has specialized experience in ice facilities and has been serving municipal clients since 1956. The firm is headquartered in St. Paul, with branch offices in Rochester and St. Cloud, Minn., Milwaukee, Wis., and Chicago, Ill. They employ more than 400 people, including civil, structural, mechanical, environmental and electrical engineers; landscape architects and urban designers; environmental and natural resources scientists; GIS specialists; surveyors; planners; and construction specialists. Roustan Unveils Next-Gen Chiller Roustan Refrigeration, a division of The Roustan United Arena Solutions Team, unveils its next-generation chiller, the Arena Ice Master. "We have noticed a trend of increased use of comfort cooling refrigeration systems for ice rinks as a means of staying within budget," said Scott Branovan, President and CEO of Roustan United Arena Solutions. "This solution is limiting as these styles of chillers can't perform efficiently or in certain applications. The Arena Ice Master is engineered for all ice types; from outdoor recreational venues to indoor, full-size arenas, delivering quality ice each and every time, and providing a menu of options while maintaining the affordability of a comfort cooling system."
