MARCH 2017 THE WOLVERINE 15   INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS FIVE YEARS AGO, 2012: Michigan hosted No. 6 Ohio State in Crisler Center, and the Buckeyes came away locked down and knocked off, 56-51. Trey Burke scored 17 to lead the Wol- verines in the home victory, securing win No. 20 on the season and boosting Michigan's Big Ten mark to 10-4. Tim Hardaway Jr. scored 13 and Jor- dan Morgan 11 to propel the Wolver- ines, while the Buckeyes piled up 13 turnovers and never led in the game, before a raucous U-M crowd. Ohio State scored only 20 points in the first half, missing all nine of its three -point attempts. The win snapped a six-game losing streak against the Buckeyes and kept Michi- gan in contention for the Big Ten title. "I'm just happy we won," Burke said. "For us to stick together as a team down the stretch, to come together after that tough loss at Ohio State, it shows how much of a team we are." "Our seniors, we don't have the greatest record against them," Michi- gan senior co-captain Zack Novak said. "These games have always been close, but they've always found a way to win at the end. It's just another step in the right direction." 10 YEARS AGO, 2007: Michigan took down Michigan State, 67-56, before an appreciative Crisler Arena crowd. The Wolverines secured their 20th win on the season, while putting away their in-state rivals and squaring things following an earlier 15-point loss in East Lansing. U-M's Dion Harris paced all scorers with 24, racking up 10 straight for the Wolverines at one point. The Spartans, meanwhile, did not score over the final 5:09 of the game. Big man Courtney Sims enjoyed a solid game, tossing in 13 points and pulling down 10 re- bounds for the Wolverines. The win just added another log to the fire in the rivalry, while keeping hope alive for Tommy Amaker's 20-10 Wolverines. 25 YEARS AGO, 1992: Michigan's Fab Five enjoyed a 79-74 home vic- tory against Iowa Feb. 12, in its second straight game starting as a unit. This one almost got away from the young Wolverines. They led 62-50 mid- way through the second half, and then Iowa ran off 15 consecutive points to take a 65-62 lead with six minutes re- maining in the game. Iowa got the lead to four, before Chris Webber knocked down a three- pointer, jump-starting a Michigan rally that carried it to the win. "He has no fear," Michigan head coach Steve Fisher said. "He's a great person, so you expect plays like that." "I knew it was a big shot," Webber acknowledged. "I'm a big-time player when it comes to the clutch. I want to be one of the people that has the ball, and be a contributor. I'm just happy it went in." Webber wound up with 15 points, behind only Jalen Rose (18) in the Michigan scoring column. Juwan How- ard and Jimmy King each chipped in 13 for the 15-5 Wolverines. — John Borton THIS MONTH IN MICHIGAN ATHLETICS HISTORY Guard Dion Harris poured in a game-high 24 points to lead the Wolverines to a 67-56 win over Michigan State 10 years ago.
