2 @ As newly-appointed Vice President and Managing Director for Massey Ferguson in Europe and Middle East, I am delighted to be writing my first message to you in this SIMA Special Edition of News@MF. Success for all of us involved in farming means having the courage to invest. We are very much a community of interest - from the farmer to the manufacturer via the dealer. This long-standing trinity is inter-dependent and subtly balanced. All of us in this value chain need a good return on investment. Otherwise, the chain is broken with the possibility of no customer, no dealer or even no manufacturer. Having been in the farm machinery industry for nearly 30 years and worked and talked with farmers all over the world, I am acutely aware of how all these aspects of the manufacturer/dealer/customer relationship intertwine The prime task of a manufacturer is to help guarantee this subtle balance whilst offering the right product and services at good value for money – from machine purchase to its resale value. At Massey Ferguson, we are constantly looking to the future and totally committed to investment in new products, manufacturing, after-sales and distribution. You will see the results of all these ongoing investments in this issue of the magazine. This includes the launch of new tractors and materials handling equipment, major developments in manufacturing at our factories worldwide and a key focus on strengthening our distributor and dealer network for industry-leading customer relationships and support. For us, customers are at the centre of everything we do. We have an exceptionally strong and dedicated MF team fully-focused on delivering the products and services farmers need to meet the challenging conditions of today's agriculture. Investments in product, manufacturing and customer support continue to underpin our growth strategy and development of the famous Massey Ferguson brand. Finally, I would like to pay tribute to my predecessor, Richard Markwell who has retired from the Company after 41 years' service. Richard was (and still is) passionate about the Massey Ferguson brand and ensuring that our customers receive the very best MF experience. He made a truly outstanding contribution to the business. His strong leadership, wide knowledge of our industry and wise counsel are highly valued and we wish him every success for the future.
