The junior college
defensive end
wasn't planning to
sign with anybody
in December, in-
stead set to return
to his school for
the second semes-
ter to see what
other college opportunities presented
themselves before February.
Then, Brohm called the day before
the mid-year signing date, with an of-
fer and a deadline to accept.
Higgins did.
"I woke up that day thinking I
wouldn't sign," Higgins said. "I was
planning to come back (to Chaffey) for
another semester to see what kinds of
offers I could get. I was waiting for a
Power 5 conference school to offer me.
I woke up that morning and there was
one on my doorstep. I'm really thankful
for this opportunity."
Purdue wanted a potential contribu-
tor as a pass-rusher.
Higgins, it'll hope, could be.
"He is a speed rusher and a guy with
finesse that has multiple moves," as-
sistant Derrick Johnson, who was in-
volved in his recruitment, at the JPC
event. "He creates easy opportunities
for us to score points as a defense. But
he's not a typical junior college recruit.
He was fully eligible out of high school,
but went to junior college in hopes
of expanding his college prospects.
He was an offensive lineman in high
school, but moved to D-end in junior
college and made 25 tackles with three
sacks in his first season at the position
