GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 4 32 was on his visit showing me where everything was. He can run and move in space." South Florida, Cincinnati and about a dozen others had also offered at the time of his commitment. D.J. WASHINGTON OL • 6-4, 275 • Louisville, Ky. (Ballard) After Brohm came to Purdue, Washington was another of the former Western Kentucky commit- ments who wanted to come with him. Badly. "He really, really wanted to be here from Day 1. I like his confi- dence. He's always thought he could play at the highest level, which I like," Brohm said. "He's expressed that to me every day. He'll have to develop and get stronger, but the confidence level he'll play with and the desire to be great will eventually pay off." Purdue offered Washington a few days before the signing date. He accepted right away. His recruitment probably also signals Purdue's willingness to err on the side of athleticism over most everything else when it comes to the offensive line. "Everyone loves how athletic I am, because I'm pretty athletic for my size and weight," he said. "I like to finish everything. I make sure I haven't stopped blocking until the whistle." Versatility adds to Washington's value, too. "I've had him in camp two years in a row, and I know he's very athletic," Brohm said. "He has long arms, can run. Does he need to add strength? Yes, he does. But he will. And once he does, he will be a very athletic guy who can probably play a lot of positions and has some toughness to him." TERRY WRIGHT WR • 5-11, 170 • Memphis, Tenn. (Coffeyville C.C.) One of the two junior college wide receivers Brohm showed up at Purdue with his sights set on, the Memphis native has signed on for the chance to play a leading role in the Boilermakers' revamped re- ceivers corps this season. Brohm called Wright an "ex- tremely dynamic" wide receiver, probably a slot receiver. As a sophomore at Coffeyville Community College in Kansas, Wright caught 50 passes for 805 yards and eight touchdowns, while averaging nearly 30 yards per kick return, with an additional score. "I bring explosiveness. I bring leadership. I bring character," Wright said. "Everything a team probably needs, I can bring." Wright chose Purdue over offers from Houston, West- ern Kentucky and Minnesota's former staff. Missouri recruited him heavily, too, and wanted him to officially visit after signing day. For much more on Wright, see Pages 28-29. ISAAC ZICO WR • 6-0, 190 • Milledgeville, Ga. (Georgia Military College) The other of Purdue's targeted pair of J.C. wide receivers, the taller, longer Zico figures to play on the outside for Purdue, Brohm hoping he can establish himself as the sort of deep threat Western Ken- tucky turned so many of its receiv- ers into. Zico caught 46 passes for 938 yards and 14 touchdowns at Georgia Military College. He chose Purdue over offers from Washington State and West Virginia. For much more on Zico, see Page 28-29.
