GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 4 41 as a corner in Mississippi last season, pressing up on wide receivers at the line of scrimmage and not allowing them much room. And now, he'll be a physical safety. "I'm ready to do my part and make sure we're where we're supposed to be as a secondary," he said. "I'm ready to compete for a spot, that's like second nature. "I've had to do that since high school. I was battling for that receiver spot when I was dropping 50 percent of the balls. I'm going to com- pete. But I've been starting ever since my junior year when I got back into (foot- ball), so I don't expect any- thing less." j Another Chance T.J. Jallow would rather stay out of the limelight. So during his freshman season at East Mississippi Community College in 2015, when Netflix was filming the documentary "Last Chance U," he tried to stay in the background as much as possible. But by Year 2, he couldn't hide any more, not when he'd developed into one of the Lions' best players. Now, he's likely to be featured in Season 2 of the docu-series on Netflix, which debuts this summer. "I'm really not one of those big on-camera guys, I'd rather just be chilling," said Jallow, a safety and mid-year enrollee at Purdue. "But I was forced against my will this last season to participate by my coach. The cameras came to my house to see how I was living and all that. They want to come up here to follow up. It was pretty cool." The first season of the documentary focuses on a handful of Lions, including John Franklin III, who transferred from Florida State to EMCC, where he spent a year as the Lions' backup quarterback, before signing at Auburn. Jallow can occasionally be seen in the background, but in the second season, he says he'll be front and center, perhaps giving Purdue fans an early look at a potential starting safety this fall. "I was always low key," he said. "The coaching staff said I needed to engage, so people could get to know who I was." — Kyle Charters Shows through mid-April Special guests, analysis and more 2 P.M.
