GOLD AND BLACK ILLUSTRATED VOLUME 27, ISSUE 4 72 last summer, have turned Harris into an offensive threat. Through mid-February, she was averaging 7.1 points per game on 52-percent shooting, often by getting good position in the post but occa- sionally by hitting a 15-foot jumper. And her free throw shooting, at about 30 percent at Ben Davis, was 52 per- cent for her first 28 games at Purdue. "We knew there was something there (offensively)," Wisdom-Hylton said. "Not that she wasn't taught in high school or AAU, but the game is just different. You teach certain things differently and she's very coachable. She picks things up quickly. When you tell her some- thing, you don't usually have to tell her three or four times. She gets it and adjusts, that's been huge for her development as well." Harris should continue to improve, with Wisdom-Hylton calling her a potential double-double candidate next year. In six starts this season, Harris has averaged 11.5 points, 7.7 rebounds and 2.7 blocks. "She works on her game," Coach Sharon Versyp said. "She comes in here twice a week on her own or with us outside of practice, working on her free throws, working on her 15-foot shot, working on alternative moves. She puts in work and she's very smart, her basketball IQ is very high. "It's a combination and I think she's going to be really special because she has all of those skills. A lot of kids are gifted but don't put in the work. I don't think she realizes her potential, and we've always said that but her team- mates are starting to realize her po- tential." j THE HILL GROUP O'HARE INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT hillgrp.com We're Illinois' largest mechanical contractor, and we're proud to have 39 outstanding Boilermakers on our HVAC / Plumbing team.
