This year's Rideau District High School musical, Grease winds up this weekend with evening performances on Friday and Saturday and a matinee on Saturday. Elemen- tary and high school students will be enjoying performances Friday morning and afternoon. See back page for more. The Review-Mirror March 2, 2017 – 16 This weekend Rideau District High School stu- dents wind up a two-week run of the musical Grease with evening perfor- mances this Friday and Saturday March 3 and 4. The company's junior cast will be performing on Friday Evening, March 3 and a matinee on Saturday March 4. The senior cast will be performing for elementary and high school students next Friday and will per- form the final evening per- formance on Saturday, March 4. Audiences were gener- ous in their appreciation of the students' performances last Friday and Saturday said Set Crew Director teacher Tamara Carlson. "It was fabulous. The students performed won- derfully. The audience reaction was fantastic," said Carlson who also had the pleasure of watching her son Evan perform the lead role of Danny. The 1971 musical is set in the 1950's at a fictional high school and follows ten working class teenagers. The RDHS ver- sion is abridged and adapt- ed for high school. "It was probably one of the better plays. Everyone knows the music. It's so much fun," she said. Fun was also in the works for the performers, who put together all the elements of the play just last week. "I think all of the actors came off saying how much fun it was to perform," said Carlson who's been providing support to more of the technical side of the production. "They do the lighting, the sound, and the back- stage. Everything is really student-driven. . We sup- port the students but they run the show," she said. What started as an impromptu parade a couple of years ago, included about 100 participants last year. This year starts off with a special St. Patrick's Day Mass at 11:30 a.m. in St. Edward Catholic Church with Westport native and historian Fr. Brian McNally. After that, there will be a kitchen party at the Lions' Beach House with light refreshments. The parade starts at The Beer Store at 5 p.m. and entries are welcome. It ends at The Cove with a perfor- mance by Turpin's trail.
