2017 / ISSUE 100 21 FESTIVALS There really is magic in the air at Sonar. From the minute you walk through the doors, you can feel party goers rubbing their hands together. Every stage has something special going on at all times. There are acts you've never heard of doing truly epic sets in every setting. Anderson Paak kicked off his set with mad energy and a smile even bigger. Barcelona was extremely happy to see him. At 4pm Giggs showed that London was more than in the house, while Jon Hopkins' set had the whole main room with hands in the air. Nicolas Jaar had the entire Sonar Pub captivated. Playing live, his set was hypnotic. Sonar by Night, held in Fira Gran Via is a venue of epic proportions. The production is mind blowing in a way that isn't big or mental; it's so simply well done. From the nights with screens in Sonar Car, dressed all in red, showing the DJs from left & right angles in black and white, to the main room with lights stretching all the way down the ceiling so the projection on the big screens of the whole room is immense. Barcelona is one of our favourite places. It seems come June time, we are there, and with the festival outdoing itself each year, why would you not want to come join us at Sonar 2018! Coming to Printworks from the 22nd - 23rd July this summer, the Afropunk London lineup is already looking too sick for words! For over 14 years the festival has been known for its multiculturalism and diversity for people of all races, genders, colours and tastes. Unlike most festivals, Afropunk "is less concerned with genres and pigeonholes than the strength and unity of otherness." Which is why it boasts of a fusion of genres from grime, punk, soul, hip-hop, reggae, pop and plenty more. Stepping up to this eclectic lineup is Danny Brown, Corinne Bailey Rae, Jazzie B, Little Simz, Kojey Radical, Nadia Rose & more! Other than roping in heavyweight acts, the festival will also host a bunch of pop-ups, from food stalls, art exhibitions and DJ sets from several talented up and coming artists . So if you fancy a festival where you can be yourself, and as weird as you like with no one batting an eye, get your tickets now! THE YEAR'S MOST EXCITING EVENT ON THE MUSIC CALENDAR - SONAR FESTIVAL! AFROPUNK RETURNS WITH JME, LIANNE LA HAVIS, WILLOW SMITH, NAO & THUNDERCAT!
