GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS: LANDON MCNAMARA As one of Jamaica's most beloved vocalists, Horace Andy is blessing us with his distinctive voice on July the 22nd at the Jazz Cafe. Born and raised on the North Shore of Oahu, Hawaii, Landon discovered his passion for making reggae music while modeling. In 2016 the model landed a role in American Eagle's 2016 star-studded campaign, this gave Landon the opportunity to showcase his love of surfing and music as part of the ad-campaign. Now, Landon is carving out his own path with the latest music video for his feel-good track 'Don't Go Away', taken from he's debut album A Dollar Short & Minute Late. The acoustic single is a perfect mashup of reggae & alternative music done right. His album has already seen success, as it reached #1 on the ITunes and Billboard Reggae charts, making this budding artist one to watch. Known for classics like 'Skylarking',' Government Land' and his cover of 'Ain't No Sunshine', Andy is now gearing up to showcase some of his more recent work with Massive Attack. Popular tracks like 'Angel' and 'Girl I Love You' will keep you shimmying all night long, and if that's not enough, get ready to experience a living legend doing his thing! Expect emotive delivery, a high energy set and deeply atmospheric but dubby songs. EVENT PREVIEW: HORACE ANDY ARTIST OF THE MONTH: MORGAN HERITAGE Following Morgan Heritage's last album Strictly Roots, which won the Grammy Award for 'Best Reggae Album', the group of siblings have not failed to deliver with their newest LP Avrakedabra. Featuring Stephen Marley, Dre Island, Damian Marley, Dre Zion and Kabaka Pryamid, Morgan Heritage have fused each artist seamlessly throughout the album. The standout track 'Selah' is filled with joyful lyrics that can connect with anyone, while 'Pineapple Wine' and 'Dancing in the Moonlight' will make you feel like you are in the Carribbean, driven home by the songs funky beats. It is obvious that the track 'Ride and Roll' is more hip hop flavoured from the opening intro, as flawless vocals flow in, to create rich and layered harmonies. Other songs like 'We Are' & 'Dream Girl' keep the LP upbeat, while the piano-driven track 'One Family' gives off more of a reggae-funk tune. Avrakedabra is a mixture of various reggae fusions, and surprisingly it all works so well together. 48 ISSUE 100 / 2017 REGGAE PLAYLIST Arise Maoli Collie Buddz Collie Buddz The Soul of Jamaica Inna De Yard Rebel Frequency Nattali Rize Here's the reggae on our playlist this month:
