6 FROM THE EDITOR Empire includes 17 courses P resident Donald Trump is not a superintendent. He's the leader of the free world. Before being sworn in, Trump said he'd step down from the day-to-day operations of the Trump Organization. Yet prices for membership in Mar-a-Lago, the sweeping Palm Beach resort he owns, doubled its initiation fees to $200,000, plus tax and $14,000 in annual dues. Trump Hotels CEO Eric Danziger said there are plans to expand all across the country, perhaps expanding from five to 26 major metropolitan areas. Overseas Trump is pursuing a multimillion-dollar expansion of the Trump International Golf Links course in Aberdeenshire, Scotland. He had promised to hold off on any new foreign deals. In his defense, a Trump spokeswoman said "implementing future phasing of existing properties does not constitute a new transaction so we intend to proceed." Trump is also doing everything he can to lower his tax bill for golf properties around the world. He's suing the small town of Ossining, N.Y., to try and lower the taxes on Trump National Golf Club Westchester. Trump is paying taxes on the course based on its assessed TRUMP NOT Allen Thayer
