SUPER SPOTLIGHT
Being innovative is a must in
the golf industry.
"Otherwise you sink
fast in this business," said
Gerald Flaherty, golf course
superintendent at The Valley
Club in Hailey, Idaho.
Flaherty believes in that
maxim. It could be something
simple like making a quick
little piece of equipment or
part of an attachment for one
of your mowers.
"I read the magazines and
see some of the things guys
are doing on Twitter," Flaherty
said, "and I think that's
really a good idea. I cannot
believe I never thought of
that. Superintendents are
pretty innovative. They're real
creative thinkers, because you
have to be.
"Money and time is always
an issue," he said. "There's
always that first foursome
of golfers who want to get
on the course or are chasing
you around the course. And
management always wants
you to do things faster and
cheaper."
