2 Ma hew Halls Ar s c Director Oregon Bach Fes val 2017 promises to be full of passion (quite literally!) and musical delights. New ar sts and illustrious guests will be joining forces with our outstanding orchestras and choir in performances of major works by Bach, Handel, and Beethoven. For our featured performances of Bach's two great Passions — St. Ma hew Passion and St. John Passion — we welcome to Eugene one of the world's most celebrated tenors, Charles Daniels, who will undoubtedly shed new light on these exquisite masterpieces and his role as the Evangelist. For the first me in a number of years, we will also be presen ng a major oratorio by Bach's great contemporary, George Frideric Handel, as the mighty Hercules comes to town. Joining us to conduct this incredible work will be one of Europe's finest and most exci ng conductors, the Danish musical giant, Lars Ulrik Mortensen. 2017 is also a very special year for the Stangeland Family Youth Choral Academy, as it celebrates its 20th Anniversary. Look out for many exci ng events in honor of SFYCA and the work of its inspira onal leader, Anton Armstrong. We look forward to Eugene being flooded by SFYCA alumni and friends so that we can "raise the roof" in praise of this flagship educa onal program. It promises to be a sensa onal summer of high-level music- making, and I can't wait to welcome you to one of our concerts! Welcome to Oregon Bach Festival
