Among the reasons Red Deer was chosen to
host the Memorial Cup is its reputation for hosting
national sport events. From the World Junior Ice
Hockey Championships, to the Brier, to the Scotties,
the city has always put on a really good show. That's
the kind of community we are. We believe in sports
and sports tourism.
"
—MERRICK SUTTER, SENIOR VICE-PRESIDENT, RED DEER REBELS
AND CO-CHAIR OF THE MEMORIAL CUP HOST COMMITTEE
Imagine the excitement when Red Deer hosted the 98th edition
of the Memorial Cup—the first time in 32 years that the junior ice
hockey championship was played in Alberta. The action took place at
Westerner Park's ENMAX Centrium, which had recently completed an
expansion that included the addition of new seating and suites.
