Issue 42 / 2012 REPRESENTING GENERAL ROOTS REGGAE / DANCE HALL 49 www.guestlist.net 7 THE HEATWAVE'S EMERGENCY CARNIVAL SPECIAL This Year's Carnival looks set to be one not to miss but if you want that extra special party catch the heatwave! The Generals are on a mission to push through a new sound of the Jamaican movement whilst keeping the roots of the culture alive. If you are anything like me and miss those days of old ska and reggae bands like The Specials then you better read on. A group you should definitely know about is General Roots. You may not have heard of them now, but they are on their way to becom- ing pretty big within the reggae scene so it's worth checking them out on Soundcloud. As a six piece band from North London they have previously supported artists such as Shy FX and Gentlemen's Dub Club. Gen- eral Roots are all about the vibes, creating a fresh urban sound that stays true to its London roots. But before you get start playing those tunes, be aware that this band will force you to get your hands waving and heads shaking even if it's raining outside. You can catch the guys at the Vagabondz Warm Up Carnival Party on 25th August at KOKO. check their facebook page face- book.com/generalroots @GeneralRoots For more info follow them on twitter and Make sure you roll through carnival with a big smile and a positive attitude. Carnival's all about happiness and celebration, the more friendly you are the more people show you love! Don't worry if you hear sirens at carni- val, it's more likely to be a bashment sound- system than the police. The best way to see carnival is from the back of a truck, with everyone going mad around you. We are taking over a truck on Monday, so come and join us. Next year we're gonna have a fire engine, but this year we'll definitely have some para- medics on standby in case passersby see our scandalous dancers and can't handle it.
