Issue 42 / 2012 THE KILLERS RELEASE FOURTH STUDIO ALBUM INDIE / ROCK 45 www.guestlist.net GUESTLIST RECOMMENDS THE NEW PORNOGRAPHERS 7 The rock giants look set to return with their fourth studio album after a two year hiatus from the musical world. The band achieved mainstream success back in 2004 with their debut have since gone on to sell over 15 million albums worldwide. The band have recently suffered personal tragedy when Flower's mother died from cancer in 2010, and their touring saxophonist album 'Hot Fuss' and committed suicide in April this year, but look to bounce back with the release of 15 new tracks recorded for the new album. The first single from the album Tommy Marth 'Runaways' was released in July and looks to continue from the success of the previous album Day & Age. The album became the band's third to reach number one in the UK charts. For fans worldwide the release of the new album Battle Born will be greeted with excitement as the Killers look to battle their own personal circumstances and the pressures of being one of the most successful bands in the world in recent times. THE VACCINES The band Google refused to autocomplete Despite their X-rated name, this band's out- put rarely gets beyond a 12 as far as sub- ject matter is concerned. With no less than eight members, the Vancouver-based pow- er pop act were packing stages with Cana- dians several years before Arcade Fire had the idea, debuting in 2000 with the album "Mass Romantic" which spawned the minor hit "Letter From An Occupant". They have since gone on to release a fur- ther four albums, including the wonderful third effort in 2005 entitled "Twin Cinema", by far the best of their impressive output over the past years. The gorgeous blend of male and female vocals bring "The Velvet Underground and Nico" to mind, though songwriting duties are generally handled by the male sing- ers, whose great of emotion and humour to the music. The band's music also fits well into the world of TV and films; their music can be found in 2001's comedy classic "Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back", as well as "Weeds", the Ameri- lyrics add extra layers can version of "The Office", and "Gilmore Girls" (a show whose indie credentials are assured, having had The Shins as guest performers in an episode), amongst many others. While all members have either solo careers or places in other bands, when their sched- ules allow for further New Pornographers output, it will doubtless be as fantastic as ever.
