•Continued from page 1 Doug Good's absence will leave a hole in the many organizations he served, including as a Councillor representing Bastard and Burgess ward on the Township of Rideau Lakes council. "Doug's been involved in just about anything in Portland- any opportuni- ties that could advance Portland, the Big Rideau Lake Association, The Cataraqui Trail, Skate the Lake," said Mayor Ron Holman. "He had a very unique role in Portland. He repre- sented his ward and he also represented the town- ship with a passion," said Holman who has been receiving condolences of Good's loss from munici- palities across the province. "His conversation around the table was always positive. Being a member of the economic development committee he always had an idea of how we could move for- ward," he said. Good was also interest- ed in the township's eco- nomic development, par- ticularly Portland and had provided leadership to a number of meetings for the community to develop a vision for the future. He grew up in Portland and attended Algonquin College to complete a three-year business course. He soon after, embarked on a life-long career with Transport Canada and retired in 2009. Though he was in Ottawa, he kept in close contact with the communi- ty through his interest in the family cottage and vol- unteering. Most of council's busi- ness was postponed Mon- day at a meeting where councilors expressed their deep appreciation for their colleague. "To me he'll always be the mayor of Portland," said Councillor Arie Hoogenboom. Councillor Claire Gun- newiek expressed many people's thoughts. "I don't know what we are going to do. He was in the middle of so much," she said. The family will be receiving condolences Sunday at Scotland Funer- al Home in Elgin from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. Family and friends will be gathering on Monday at Portland United Church at 11 a.m. for his funeral. Left to mourn is his wife (Chris Quattrocchi) son Frank (Debby) daugh- ter Lisa, grandchildren, and a sister Frances (Barry) Ross. He will be fondly remembered by grandchildren, Laena and Mason Good, as well as his niece and nephew, Ali- son and Kevin Ross. Mike Carty, above, and Doug Good were a large part of Portland, as well as the wider community. After this year's Skate the Lake in January, both men were out helping with the clean-up on one of the coldest days Portland Outdoors volunteers have endured in the history of the event. Darrell Green, 61, did- n't show up for a planned meeting with a friend on Buck Lake. The family friend began to search near the shore- lines around the route Green would have taken and observed a partly sub- merged ATV and a helmet in a narrow section of the Lake. Frontenac OPP along with emergency services were called to the scene where South Frontenac Fire and Rescue recovered Green's body from the icy water. The Frontenac OPP are continuing with the inves- tigation. Both men were avid volunteers
