PARTY OF FOUR Can-Am’s Maverick X3 MAX Brings A Sleek Design To Its Four-Passenger UTV By Janaise Sanchez Photos Courtesy BRP Can-Am answered the call for Maverick enthusiasts who want to bring the whole family along for a wild ride. The all-new Maverick X3 MAX is the company’s new four-seater that builds upon all of the same technologies and industry-altering advancements people love, but with the next generation design in mind. Just like the two-seater X3, the X3 MAX is available in base, DS, and RS configurations, all of which are intended to provide the most comfort in a four-seat sport configuration, while maintaining Can-Am’s styling, power and suspension performance DNA of its X3 line. Low And Comfortable One of the first things you notice about the X3 MAX is its low seating position and streamlined roll cage. According to Can-Am, the design provides adult-sized room for front and rear passengers and establishes the feeling of being safely connected to the vehicle as it moves. “We were concerned about the size of the Max initially, but once we got into the driver’s seat the size was never an issue,” said Murray Racing’s Derek Murray, 2016 SCORE Pro UTV FI Season Champion. The Can-Am factory supported team got a first-hand experience with the Maverick X3 MAX and put the vehicle through its paces. “We had four full-grown adults riding with us, and within minutes, were jumping bowls and riding in the dunes carving them up. The handling is tight, and the power is always there with the turbo.” According to Can-Am, the seats are race inspired and provide ideal support and weight distribution. Well-placed foot rests, grab handles, and a race-inspired steering wheel combines with a chassis made out of Dual-Phase 980 steel to keep all of your passengers safe. For added protection, the Maverick X3 MAX RS comes with a heavy-duty full HMW (High Molecular Weight) skid plate and a full roof with a 150 lb (68 kg) LinQ™ quick-attach rack capacity. “We love the lower seats both front and in the rear,” said Murray. “You don’t notice the length or get as much body-roll with the sway bar set up, and lower center of gravity. This set up really allows you to drive the X3 MAX as a sports car, versus a utility vehicle. Even the rear seats recline back and have an aggressive seating position. The back seats have so much room we call it the X3 limo.” Power To The People The X3 MAX comes with Can-Am’s powerful 154 horsepower, turbocharged and intercooled 900cc Rotax® ACE engine. Equipped with a Donaldson high-performance air filter, three oversized air intakes, and a sport exhaust out back, the engine delivers a healthy performance tone that keeps the engine thundering while maintaining low engine temperatures for all-day fun. Intelligent Throttle Control (iTC) and a shiftless Quick Response System X (QRS-X) CVT transmission, keeps the engine in its power band for maximum performance. The transmission’s three-roller pulley design and no-prop shaft provide a durable, maintenance free system. Drivers can also easily switch from 2WD to 4WD with the Visco-Lok auto-locking front differential. Baja Bred Suspension System Perhaps one of the best features of the Maverick X3 MAX is its capabilities and sharp handling for a larger four-passenger vehicle. “The new Maverick X3 is the largest four-seat side-by-side on the market, but it is also the best handling and driver-focused built UTV out there,” said Murray. This is primarily due to Can-Am’s TTX suspension system. It’s a Trophy Truck inspired double A-arm front, with a four-link Torsional Trailing-arm rear suspension which both delivers 22 inches of suspension travel giving this four-passenger UTV incredible traction and capabilities. The MAX’s handling performance is further enhanced with sway-bars on both ends, and Tri-Mode dynamic power steering. RS models also feature a 72-inch wide track, compared to a 64-inch track on other models. The RS also gets fully adjustable Fox 3.0 Podium RC2 shocks with remote reservoirs. Standard MAX models come with Fox 2.5 adjustable PODIUM shocks with QS3 compression adjustment. X3 MAX DS models come with Fox 2.5 PODIUM RC2 shocks with dual-speed compression and rebound adjustments. With its TTX suspension, the MAX RS is designed to maintain optimum control, even under full wheel travel to provide precise steering and more power to the ground. Helping the X3 MAX get over rough terrain are a set of 14-in. aluminum beadlock wheels. Standard models come with 28-inch diameter Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires, while DS models come equipped with 29-inch and a 30-inch version on the RS. “The new MAX drives so amazing that once you experience it, the UTV raises the driving experience to a whole new level,” said Murray. “The cool thing is you can have four people in the X3 and charge the trails and dunes while riding hard. You don’t have to take it easy because you have 4 people, you can ride and show the full capabilities of the new X3 suspension. It’s truly exhilarating to experience what the new Max can do when it comes to power, handling, and suspension.” Specs: Vehicle: Can-Am Maverick X3 MAX Four-Seater UTV Engine: 900cc Rotax® ACE, 154 HP Drivetrain: iTC shiftless Quick Response System X, CVT Suspension Front: TTX Double A-Arm Suspension Rear Four-Link Torsional Trailing Arm Shocks: RS- Fox 3.0 Podium, DS- Fox 2.5 Podium RC2, Standard – Fox 2.5 Podium QS3 Wheels- 14-inch aluminum Tires: Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 (RS-30-inch, DS-29-inch, Standard- 28-inch) Photo Captions One photo to a page, please.
