With the current proliferation of mobile consumer devices, the business world has begun to embrace, for better or worse, the bring-your- own-device (BYOD) trend. For several years now, employees have purchased and used a variety of smartphones, tablets and laptops for use at home; and because of their mobility and ease of use, employees now want to take them to work. While law firms are generally slower to integrate IT trends than the rest of the business world, BYOD is spreading quickly. Mobile devices are increasingly embraced by tech-savvy workers, particularly the latest generation of attorneys and office workers who have grown up with Internet access and constantly changing technology. In fact, the movement is often referred to as BYOT (bring your own technology), as these employees are also using the software specific to mobile devices as well as consumer-oriented cloud services. 22 Peer to Peer
