20 THE WOLVERINE MAY 2017 BY JOHN BORTON M ichigan didn't exactly grind to a halt on offense in 2016 with a first-year starting quarterback. The Wolver- ines averaged 40.3 points per game, No. 11 in the nation. They hung 49 on eventual Big Ten champion Penn State. They scored 40 or more in seven games. They barely lost an Orange Bowl shootout to a high-powered Florida State crew, 33- 32. That said, they were three scores away from turning the "3" at the end of their record to a "0." Going forward, they'll be all about getting that done. There's a reclamation project at hand, especially on an offensive line and wide receiving corps that lost five fifth-year senior, multi-year starters. But there's talent in abundance, and a now-veteran quarterback with a gifted young challenger pushing hard. Michigan will head for Rome to con- clude spring practice not thinking of ruins, but even bigger and better re- sults in their own Colosseum. Here's a look at how it was coming together as of April 15: HONING AN ATTACK Michigan Is Working To Formulate Its Offense
