PREP PROFILES Michigan wasn't the first offer for St. Louis Lutheran North three-star strongside defensive end Ronnie Per- kins, but he's glad that it eventually came. The actual moment he was of- fered wasn't a big production, but that didn't take away from what a Michigan offer meant to him. "Coach [Greg] Mattison called me, and we just talked for a minute. Then he asked me how I would feel to have an offer from Michigan," Perkins said. "I told him it would be great, and he did it. It was pretty much that simple." Mattison hasn't been involved with the 6-4, 260-pound Perkins for very long, but already the veteran line coach has made a solid impres- sion on the rising senior. "He's a great guy," Perkins said of Mattison. "He told me about some of the experiences he has and some of the guys that he's coached. I'm excited to build a relationship with him." St. Louis isn't that far from Ann Arbor, but it is far enough away for Perkins to not be an expert on all things Michigan. He plans to learn more, but for now his knowledge is limited despite having an indirect connection to the state. "My coach, Carl Reed, is from Michigan, and he likes it a lot. I really like it, too, and I really like the tradi- tion," Perkins explained. "I'm really interested in seeing what Coach [Jim] Harbaugh is doing up there, and I'm just excited to have the offer." Perkins eventually plans to make his way up to Ann Arbor and per the lineman, it's a matter of when, not if. "I plan to visit for sure," Perkins said. "If I can't make it up this spring I'll definitely be up there this sum- mer. I don't have a date yet or any- thing." Perkins finished his junior season with 47 total stops, 17 tackles for loss and three sacks, and was named to the All-Metro League first team by The St. Louis Post Dispatch as well as the St. Louis All-American All-Star Football Team for small schools. — Brandon Brown MAY 2017 THE WOLVERINE 51 Versatile Wide Receiver Will Consider Michigan Throughout His Process   PREP PROFILES St. Louis Christian Brothers Col- lege four-star wide receiver Kamryn Babb appears to be one of U-M's top targets at the position, and with the Wolverines looking to take one to two receivers he is being pursued aggressively. Rivals.com's No. 14 wide receiver and No. 75 overall prospect nation- ally visited Michigan March 31, and had great things to say following the trip. "The visit went pretty good," Babb said. "I heard a lot of great things about Michigan in terms of what they have to offer. Finally getting to go up there and see and meet Coach [Jim] Harbaugh and the whole coaching staff, and see the facilities and all of the things they have to offer outside of football was a great experience, and I can't wait to get back up there." It wasn't all about football with Babb. He's a smart young man and some of the activities away from the field are what stuck out most to him during the visit. "I got a chance to see campus and see what Michigan has to offer aca- demically," Babb said. "That's going to be a big part of my decision. It was important to see not only what they have to offer on the football field but also what they have off the field." Michigan doesn't have a coach dedicated just to wide receivers. It's a team effort in coaching and when courting a player like Babb, who seemed to enjoy that approach a lot. "I feel like they have a lot of the tools to help me perfect my craft and become the best wide receiver I can be," he said. The 6-1, 175-pounder said Michi- gan would be a part of his process until he makes a decision and that he is fully expected to include the Wolverines in his top group when he releases it later this summer. As a sophomore, Babb earned all- state honors as a wide receiver af- ter catching 41 passes for 902 yards and 10 touchdowns. He was also a MaxPreps 2015 Sophomore All- American second teamer on defense after recording 20 tackles and five interceptions. Babb missed five games due to in- jury during his junior campaign, but still caught 45 passes for 784 yards and nine scores. He also scored three rushing touchdowns and had two return touchdowns for a total of 14 scores on the season. He was named the Metro Cath- olic Conference Offensive Player of the Year as well as a first-team all-state selection by the Missouri media and the Missouri Football Coaches Association. — Brandon Brown Athletic Defensive Lineman Is Giving The Wolverines A Serious Look ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Lutheran North H.S.
