"Torque has been building travel trailers for just the last couple years. With limited capacity in the past, Heartland focused more on the high-end and more expensive fifth wheels, but now, with the additional production added for our travel trailers, we plan to see significant growth in both segments in 2017," Jones says. "Torque travel trailers were 17.79 percent of Heartland's 2016 toy hauler sales, but they are growing rapidly and will be much higher in next year's stats," Jones predicts. Despite the fact that all of Heartland's production is based in Elkhart, Ind., Jones believes that Heartland's toy haulers are very competitive in the West. Meanwhile, he wouldn't divulge any details about 2018 toy hauler products, other than to say it will be "ground shaking. It will be a new floorplan that's been more than a year in development. It will shake up the toy hauler market." Eclipse RV: West Coast Toy Hauler King Forest River and Thor Industries face a strong competitor on the West Coast in Eclipse RV Manufacturing. Since its founding in 2003, Riverside, Calif.-based Eclipse has combined aggressive pricing, co-branding with other popular consumer brands, and close attention to the dynamic toy hauler market to forge its No. 5 spot in unit sales, according to Stat Surveys. The Eclipse Attitude is the nation's top-selling travel trailer toy hauler not made by Forest River or Thor. From their vantage point, owners and avid RVers Dallen and Joanne Trealoff say Stat Surveys undercounts Attitude sales. They believe it is actually No. 1. The Trealoffs built their 20,000th toy hauler in March and report a staggering 2,200-unit backlog for 2018 product. Eclipse RV offers more than 50 types of fifth wheel and travel trailer toy haulers under its flagship product Attitude, and its Stellar and Iconic brand lines. Each model offers a range of sizes and price points. Units range from a 19-foot lightweight unit to a 39-foot luxury wide-body unit. The "sweet spot" for Eclipse toy haulers is in the low $30,000s, according to company Sales Manager Kevin Flores. The most popular models are the Attitude 27SA (side aisle), Iconic 2714SF (front sleeper) and the Stellar 28IBG (island bed). The latter floorplan is similar to the 27SA, except that it has an extra 50-gallon fresh water tank, optional Kicker speakers, Figure 3A Top-Selling Travel Trailer Toy Haulers: 2012 1.
